UC Davis employee from Woodland found dead – Possibly H1N1
Jennifer Lee Zeka, 40, was found dead on Monday in her Woodland apartment. John Madigan, a professor of veterinary medicine at UC Davis, said she experienced flu-like symptoms prior to her death.The Yolo County Coroner is investigating the cause of death. It is unknown if Zeka died because of H1N1 (swine flu).
“We do not have the facts in this case yet, but I wanted to issue a timely reminder that people should be alert to flu symptoms, contact their physician or student or employee health about possible preventive treatment if they become ill, and stay home if they are sick,” Madigan said in a letter to veterinary hospital faculty, staff and students. The letter was strictly precautionary.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s web site during of July 19-25, “influenza activity decreased in the United States; however, there were still higher levels of influenza-like illness than is normal for this time of year.”
More than 98 percent of all sub-typed influenza A viruses reported to CDC were novel influenza A (H1N1) viruses.
Within the week of July 19-25 flu symptoms were widespread in California, while most other states saw sporadic, regional, or local, flu activity.
